NSUOK Libraries host Earth Day events – April 18-22
Northeastern State University’s Libraries will host a variety of Earth Day celebratory activities from April 18 through April 22.
The NSU Libraries Earth Day & Sustainability Committee was formed in summer 2015 and represents all three campuses.
Sophia Beverley Threatt, instructor of Library Services and chair of the Earth Day and Sustainability Committee, organized several fall meetings where the team met and decided upon the theme: “I’m Going Green!”
“We brainstormed ideas on how to celebrate the Earth, involve our community, bring a heightened awareness, and become better stewards of our planet. We also wanted to have a personal element represented to establish how individuals are contributing to sustainability or celebrating the Earth,” Threatt said.
Throughout the spring semester, committee members collaborated with friends and faculty, and invited the local community to participate.
“All of our events across three campuses are informational, fun, creative and educational.”
Earth Day is an annual event that is held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, it is now celebrated in more than 193 countries.
